iMprint is an interactive installation devoted to Locarno Film Festival. Visitors of the Festival have an opportunity to create a digital poster of Locarno Film Festival 2022 Edition with their body. Participant’s image is projected as a dynamic leopard on one of the walls, giving them a fun, playful space to express themselves through movement and acting. The installation is sending a positive message reminding us how important it is to express oneself and giving a chance to participants to create a memorabilia, a digital souvenir of 2022 Edition.
/ Interface and Interaction Modality
As a main UI of the interface we took official Locarno Film Festival Poster and uniquely designed a leopard, a character who resembles elegance and strengths, allowing participants to express themselves regardless of gender, age, race or nationality. As the participant enters, interaction with the installation is triggered by the motion sensor. As soon as Leopard is displayed, interaction occurs through movement of the participant’s body. Such capability was achieved through utilisation of the camera. Final type of interaction happens through a physical button, located on the floor, which is utilised to take a picture of the generated poster.
/ User Experience
User experience is simple and intuitive, and primarily reflects branding of Locarno film festival. Instruction portion of the installation was placed inside the installation, which is as the result of user testing could be potentially improved.
/ Research and Development Context
In depth research was conducted to explore different types of interactive installations, as well as history, values and archive of Locarno Film Festival. As primary software medium for development Spark AR was used as well as Python and P5 programming languages. Specifications for the hardware could be found in the documentation folder.
